What is everyone's opinion on what we should do with the money that we got at the Kirtan.
Its roughly $200+
Some suggestions are giving it to the Williams Lake Gurdwara (there was a fire before and it burned down) or give it to the New West Gurdwara to help out for the remodeling.

First of all... HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROSHANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN! Alrite, now the important part, I believe we should donate the money to the New West Gurdwara for 2 main reasons: 1) Closer to home 2) Williams Lake Gurdwara has already been donated a lot of money - not saying that they dont need it, I just think it makes more sense to give it to the New West Gurdwara
And one more thing (yes that makes it 3... ) it's run by youth... wut better way to support the "future" of sikhism

In my opinion, I feel it is unfair to other gurdawaras if we give the money to the New West gurdawara. Your right in that we should support the youth group that runs the gurdawara although there are better ways to support the "future" directly besides simply giving the youth group money. My suggestion is that we hold an event specifically for kids at sfu in which they can learn about sikhi in a fun environment, much like our games night with some presentations involved. It would be more beneficial to help the youth directly as opposed to letting someone else decide. Please note this is a personal suggestion and whatever the ssa decides to do with the money I will support.

Building on from what Raj said, why not donate it to the Sikh youth centers that do that stuff already? The Guru Nanak Academy is a great example. It is close to home and, I don't think they recieve enough donations from the community. They do so much and they are committed to the growth of Sikhi. Its a great way to lend out support but also to say thanks.
Just an idea.

I have to agree with aman i think it is a good idea to give the donations to the New West Gurdawara because of the fact that we are youth ourselves and this will aid in the message that is trying to be communicated to the general public.

I think it would be a good idea to start a poll to decide what to do.

Hey guys, I think its a good idea to give the money to the New West Gurdwara as well. Somebody mentioned at a meeting earlier that we ourselves probably wont get a chance to go out there and help them, and they obviously need our support given the fact that they're one of the first youth groups to take on such a significant role in our community. But other than that, if we vote against this idea, i think any youth group would be a great idea since again we are focusing to create awarness for the sikh youth !

I didn't know where to put this... but, here it goes: UBC SSA First Annual Kirtan will be held on November 9, 2006 @ the UBC Asian Centre, 1871 West Mall... 6-8pm ...and no excuses as to why you can't come - YOU MUST!... if it's transportation, I suggest you guys use your Kirtan money donations to buy a bus/skytrain fare and make it a field trip to UBC! I hope to see you all there!

Why is the UBC Kirtan on a Thursday?
Doesnt that already make it that less people will come out due to the fact that they have school in the morning.

Don't tell me that was your reasoning behind making the Kirtan on a Thursday. If so, that is so sad and I'm kind of disappointed.
We had ours on a Friday, we had a great turnout. "Party night" is not an excuse
