"Bingo Bango Bongo, his name is Roberto Luongo!" -Tom Larscheid
"Hopefully we can play some dirty, Calgary Flame/Old Minnoesota Wild hockey and get into the playoffs, and after that anythings possible.. " -htoor85
umm... relying on one man never gets anyone anywhere. We can NEVER be like the Flamers or the Wild... nor would we like to. If we did, we'll just end up like them - hot for a while, and then lose it all in the final (ehem*flamers '04 cup run).
Yeah, Luongo is going to be a big factor... but like everyone has said time and time again, so is scoring. The confidence Luongo has brought to the locker room is tremendous, but we certainly can't rely soley on a goalie.
The "new NHL" is about speed and scoring; goaltending is a bonus. Our equation is almost complete, all we need to do now is to show 'em what we got! I think we have a good, hardworking team... No real flashy names in this bunch, but believe me, they wont go away without a fight.

I see Sharon is converting over to SFU...Welcome!!!! Stay, you know you want to.
But my opinion? Sure Luongo has been doing. He's impressed me with some spectacular saves. BUT! I'm still not a fan. Why? Because he's been so hyped up that I feel he HAS no choice but to be at his prime right now to get the fans to like him. However, his skills and ability (and my change of opinion) will only matter when it counts. When we need to clinche a playoff spot and in the middle of the season. There's only been 4 games so far. No one can sit here and tell me "Luongo is the team, he's great, he's amazing, best trade ever" until then. I sure refuse to jump onto THAT bandwagon. Same goes for the offence and defence. Everyones just warming up. This season makes or breaks us.
I'm a fan, not a bandwagoner. Please don't confuse that. I jumped on the wagon many many years ago, as a naive child who wanted to be "cool". But I'm a dedicated fan, and as a dedicated fan, I'm entitled to criticize.
Thank you, and good night

Our team can be like the New Jersey Devils of the 90's.
One of the top goaltenders in the league. one hard hitting, stay at home d-man. a system that everyone follows. low scoring, gritty games.
Hopefully they don't start trapping.

Hey, nice to see you on our boards and welcome..
what i mean by flames/wild hockey is that if you watch the games, we've been playing like the flames and like the wild used to already. And if you look down our lineup its really hard to say that we are gonna score alot, keep in mind that we lost 33 goals in carter and around 30 or so atleast from a healthy bertuzzi. We replaced those with guys like like Bulis, Pyatt, and Chouinard.. and our defense is not as strong as it used to be either.. so i think we have to play much more conservatively out of necessity , im not saying Lungo's gotta do everything but that we have to play more conservatively to win. Luongo has been amazing so far; and he is a proven commodity in net something we've never had since Captain Kirk. But hopefully it all goes well.. you just never know in todays NHL..
Lets convert some more UBCers..

Fine Vic ... who do you support?
Whatever the case, this team is on Luongo's shoulders and it will only go as far as he can take us. If he gets injured *knocks on wood* then this team will sink faster than a lead balloon.

Since Kirk Mclean?? I'm going to have to disagree AGAIN. I was a Cloutier/Auld fan, and still am. Cloutier, you must admit, before he was plagued with injuries was amazing. He brought us out of our drought and did a lot for the team. Not only did he do an amazing job in net (even when he was struggling through injuries) but the guy was so entertaining to watch! Not many goalies now get penalties, but he never stood down to anyone roughing him up or playing cheap. Sure it cost us time by being a man down, but he did a lot for team morale. He cheered on the guys when we were down and never seemed to give up until the last minute of the game. Auld stepped up to the plate BIG TIME. Regardless of what you all feel, I think he did an amazing job for being a backup goalie. He stepped up when he needed to and did really well until season ended. Having not played as much as other goalies, he did great! He deserves some recognition. Kirk was amazing, and always be amazing. But for you all to say, Luongo is going to be the next Kirk..No thanks. No one can say what Luongo will become until we've seen him play at least 20 more games. No ones playing at their prime right now, the season just started. I'll be the first to say it, where was Luongo? I saw him at the Olympics, went "wow"...and then, nothing. The argument "he was on a crappy team" may come up, but a lot of goalies are on crappy teams and have taken their teams to play offs (*cough cough* flames). I will come back in the middle of the season and rehash this post, but for now, I'm going to sit back and let the Luongo bandwagon drive by.

Not the Canucks, they just choke in the playoffs every year. They lost Crawford and Bertuzzi, even though I think Bertuzzi needs serious psychiatric help (sorry Sharan ) I'm not a big hockey fan since Wayne Gretzky retired, so I don't really have a team as of yet.
