I realize that one can argue by saying that if the US can have a weapon then everybody should have one. However every country will try to protect its own interests and their allies. North Korea is clearly a threat to the region. The North Korean army would rain artillery shells into Seoul within the first hour; thousands of people would die within the first days of a conflict.
The DPRK is a Stalinist state, they have nothing going for themselves, their country is broke, citizens are starving and yet their leader still enjoys a lavish lifestyle (he has freshly caught food flown via helicopter to his train when he’s traveling) No doubt that military action should have been done on North Korea long ago. However the Chinese commies are obviously against the idea of a liberated North Korea (yeah I know that I sound like a republican but I hate republicans), regardless of how the people of North Korea live. Now that North Korea has nuclear weapons the idea of having a free North Korea are is almost impossible. The process of change albeit a long one will have to start with China, after a few generations of leaders perhaps a new democratic ideology may flood the Chinese government and only then will North Korea change. Currently North Korea is run by the old military generals from the Korean War, so after they are all dead and Kim is dead perhaps hopefully the country will stop its isolationist policy.
I guess I will re-emphasize my point and that is; North Korea's regime has just secured its longevity with nuclear weapons and its citizens will continue to suffer. Perhaps sanctions are the best way to get rid of the regime; starve the country of all goods and eventually the government will cave, but the civilian costs would be unthinkable.
