I was with a few of my friends yesterday and a very interesting topic came up (my friends were both Muslim and Christian). While discussing how science and religion are almost polar opposites, the topic of Evolution came up.
Muslims and Christians both do not believe in Evolution, while my scientist friend tried to explain that it did through biology. Muslims and Christians believe in the "Adam and Eve Theory" where God placed them on the Earth for the purpose of Reproduction.
What does Sikhism say about this? Do we believe in Evolution or not?
For those just browsing, do you believe in Evolution of the human species? Why or why not?
THANKS!

Sikhs believe that God created the whole universe. if the earth was evolved then God created the evolution of the earth. In addition, Guru Granth Sahib (The Holy Scripture of Sikhs) states remarkable information about the universe, galaxies, stars, planets and the moons. None of the information written in the scripture contradicts with the scientific facts. Furthermore, nothing in Guru Granth Sahib can be disproved with the help of science. However, scientific facts support the teachings of Guru Granth Sahib. www.religioustolerance.org/ev_denom2.htm

(Not so much evolution, but while we're on the topic of biology) Each year I used to take biology in highschool, and then all the bio classes in university, they used to start off with something like the professors estimates of how many living species there are in the world today, and they would say how theres somewhere over 6 million, but less than 20 million. It never ceased to amaze me that in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the concept of churasee lakh joon is so perfect, because it says there are 8.4 million species, and that is also reinforced by the beliefs of the scientists.
Also, this may seem bias, but stuff ive learned in science, and the bit of things I do know from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji (basically just stuff I've asked people over the years, and what I have been told), its like if all the scientists actually turned towards these scriptures, they would make probably an unlimited amount of advancements, just off the bat. The time they spend hypothesizing about something like the actual number of species, its like Sikhism has way more than just a minor head start in this stuff.
