Hey, I have been learning a lot about meditation but I never heard much about it being involved in Sikhism until my friend suggested Nam Simran to me. I got myself into this zone while i was doing it the other day and i pretty much felt like i was 100% in the present moment i lost all awareness of my body and sitting down had stopped bothering me it felt like it was just me and the one mantra. I listen to Rehras at night in English before I go to bed and they talk about other worlds and fairy's and stuff like that... I was wondering are there really deeper levels of this meditation technique that actually let you experience these other worlds fairies spirits and angelic beings?? it confuses me because how else could the guru's have spoke of them . Does anyone know much about these higher levels of awareness?

Hi Arjan,
I'm not the wisest person to talk about this but I have heard of stuff like this. From what I have been told, when you do simran your body is capable of going into such a deep level of meditation, that you might feel that you are not in your own body. You may, instead, enter a very calm and peaceful state which may feel like you having an "out of body" experience. Does that make sense at all?
I have gone to many simran programs where people start doing simran loudly, or they start swaying. A lot of people do not understand this and make a "mockery" out of it. However, (from what I have been told) those individuals have entered a deeper state of mind where they are in such a deep level of meditation, that they begin to feel different things and see different things. Some of the people enter an almost "hypnotized" state. I know that it is possible for individuals to enter such stages, but that comes with understanding Simran and doing different breathing exercises that relax your mind and muscles. A lot of focus is required and it does take time to get yourself to that stage.
I know people out there might think I'm saying weird things, but it is true. There are Sikh's that become so one with Guru Ji that they do Simran and are able to slow down their breathing immensely. I think it has been witnessed where Sikh's breath only once every few hours or weeks (or something along those lines). These individuals are also so deeply in meditation, that they can stay in that position for years without needed food or water.
Simran allows the body to endure such great dukhs. Why wouldn't it be possible to experience such deep meditation where your body becomes seperated from your soul? I certainly believe it.
I'm not sure of any "techniques" but from what I have been taught, when doing Simran you should focus your mind on one image (like water, or mountains). Something that calms you. Also, when doing Simran you should HEAR it yourself. You should say the words so that your own ears can hear them. It is said that Guru Ji lies within our bodies, so how can He hear us do His Simran if we can't hear it ourselves? Your entire body should speak His name.
I hope that makes some sense. Forgive me for any mistakes. I am still learning. Please let me know if you have questions.

Thanks Pally, the reason i was asking is I've been doing a lot of yoga and learning a lot about other cultures and what they do to reach enlightenment or to reach god in our way of speaking. I knew there has to be some more breathing type exercises in order to reach those states because a lot of the yoga i used to do incorperated the breathing and i would get my body into extremely relaxed states. In the mean time i'm just trying to improve my focus and awareness but soon enough i'm gonna need to learn the breathing exercises you were talking about.. do you have any idea what they are called or where i might be able to learn them?

Hey, I believe those excersises are called Sadhana. Parm is an expert at that as he takes classes at Yoga West in Vancouver (He's your guy to talk to. I believe he made a thread about it too!). But if you go to www.mrsikhnet.com/, it is a great resource for information. Also, Gurumustuk Singh Ji has several videos on there that are very helpful. I have tried a few and they are very calming. Good luck!
